Million-dollar WESTERN MAX win in Saskatoon!
Shannon Luoma learned once and for all that it always pays to listen to your wife. The Saskatoon resident won $1 million on the June 8 WESTERN MAX draw.
“My wife had read that there were unclaimed lottery prizes in Saskatchewan and she knew that I had a stack of tickets that I hadn’t checked,” he said. “So she made me stop at the store to check them all.”
As it turns out, Luoma’s wife was right to make him check his tickets because within the stack was a million-dollar winner.
“I was scanning tickets and when I got to this one, I had to scan it twice so I could take a picture of the amount.”
Ticket in hand, and armed with the photo of the screen, Luoma went out to his wife who was waiting for him in the truck.
“I showed her the photo and said, ‘How many zeroes are on here?’ She said ‘What?’ So I asked again, ‘How many zeroes are on here? Five or six?’”
Once his wife confirmed that there were indeed six zeroes, Luoma took his ticket back inside the store to the cashier.
“I told them that I didn’t know what to do, but that the ticket I had was worth $1,000,000.00.”
The happy winner said he is going to take his time deciding what to do with his winnings.
“I don’t know yet at this point,” Luoma said. “Live more comfortably and live a little freer.”
“I still don’t really believe it,” he continued. “We might go on a winter vacation; somewhere with a beach.”
Luoma purchased his $3 quick pick WESTERN MAX ticket at the Shell Select located at 1828 McOrmand Drive in Saskatoon. He matched the numbers 13, 19, 24, 25, 28, 33 and 44 to win.
